    R. P. Hunnicutt - Abrams: A History of the American Main Battle Tank
    Presidio Press | 1990 | ISBN: 089141388X | 320 pages | PDF | 163.25 MB

R.P Hunnicutt has written a series of books that mark the definitive history of American armored fighting vehicles, and serious students of the subject would be well advised to collect them all. Each encyclopedia-size volume has a thorough history of vehicle development, chapters devoted to prototypes and experimental vehicles, four view 1:48th scale drawings of all major types and subtypes, and a photo section depicting the vehicles in service. There are hundreds of detail photographs and illustrations, and the books are printed on high quality glossy paper.
This particular volume chronicles the US military's search for a true main battle tank that could replace both the medium and heavy gun tanks in service in the 1950's and early 60's. The MBT-70/XM803 project of the 1960's and early 70's is covered in detail, and finally the M1 Abrams itself, developed in the 1970's and first fielded in 1982. The book discusses the multilayered armor (nicknamed Chobham armor after the British MVEE facility that developed it) which gave the new generation of tanks their reputation for invincibility, though of course the exact composition was and is classified. It also covers the competitive trials between the General Motors and Chrysler Abrams prototypes and the German Leopard 2. The Leopard 2 was rejected for US service, but its 120 mm gun was incorporated into the US tanks beginning with the M1A1. The book went to print just as the M1A1 was being deployed to Saudi Arabia in 1990, so the history ends there, but it is still a superb reference for the Abrams.

    R. P. Hunnicutt - A History of the American Light Tank. Vol.2: Sheridan
    Presidio Press | 1995 | ISBN: 089141570X | 336 pages | PDF | 276.52 MB

Dick Hunnicutt's first volume, "A History of the American Light Tank", documents the development of light armored vehicles from their early beginning in World War I to the end of the Second World War. This volume 2 traces not only the development of the light tank, but also its transition from a lightly armored vehicle supporting infantry to its current in extremis role for the Army's early entry forces.
The centerpiece of volume 2 is the M551, General Sheridan, armored reconnaissance/airborne assault vehicle (AR/AAV). The Sheridan was a revolutionary vehicle; a tank that could swim, fire missile and caseless conventional ammunition from the same stabilized gun-launcher system, and be delivered to the combat area by parachute. All of these capabilities had to be developed and integrated into a vehicle weighing roughly sixteen tons. The Sheridan was the most complex armored vehicle ever developed by the Army at that time. It was to be the most controversial vehicle ever developed.
Mr. Hunnicutt does an outstanding job documenting the difficulties encountered in the development and fielding of the Sheridan. He also accurately records the divergent opinions held by the two main users of the vehicle, the cavalryman and the paratrooper.

M-551 Sheridan in Action (Armour in Action 28) By Jim Mesko
    Publisher: Squadron/Signal Publications Inc 1991 | 52 Pages | ISBN: 0897472535 | PDF | 61 MB

Although the Army was generally satisfied with the M41 Walker Bulldog tank, it was decided during late 1952 to begin development of a new vehicle to fill an Army require*ment for an air transportable/deployable light tank. While the M41 was capable of being carried by existing transport aircraft it was not capable of being dropped by para*chute.
The Korean War had underscored the need for the Army to be able to rapidly deploy forces to trouble spots on a moments notice. To meet this requirement a lighter, smaller tank that could be airlifted into combat was needed. While efforts were made late in the M41's production run to upgrade its armament nothing could be done to reduce its overall weight and size. This led to the Army's decision to develop a totally new ve*hicle.
The first vehicle the Army examined was a proposal from Cadillac, designated the 171. Armed with a 76mm cannon, this design was smaller, lighter and less expensive than the Bulldog. Lightly armored, the 171 had a relatively conventional layout In the event, the Army decided not to issue a production contact.

Military Jeep: 1940 onwards (Ford, Willys and Hotchkiss) (Enthusiasts' Manual)
    Haynes | 2010 | ISBN: 1844259331 | English | 82*2 Pages | PDF | 62,9 MB

The Jeep was the primary light four-wheel-drive vehicle of the US Army and allies during the Second World War and the post-war period. It was originally designed to meet a 1940 US Army specification, and over 600,000 examples were built in both Ford and Willys forms. The Jeep saw service all over the world, and a healthy number of restored authentic military examples can still be seen today in the hands of enthusiasts. This book provides a brief history of this iconic vehicle, and a fascinating behind-the-scenes insight into what is involved in restoring, operating and maintaining a Jeep today, 70 years after the prototype first appeared.

Soviet Secret Projects: Bombers Since 1945
    Midland Publishing | 2004 | ISBN: 1857801946 | English | 179 Pages | PDF | 100 MB

One of the great success stories of aviation publishing in recent years has been Midland's 'Secret Projects' series. Starting with three volumes of Luftwaffe Secret Projects and following on with the British Secret Projects series, we now turn to the what the Soviets were getting up. The aviation industry of the former Soviet Union has produced many outstanding military aircraft. However, there were many other proposed projects for fighters and bombers that never saw the light of day and almost all of them are completely unknown in the West. The end of the Cold War has given the opportunity for researchers in Russia to uncover these projects for the first time. The M.4, Tu-16 and Tu-22 are well known, but there were many more that never flew. This volume, the first in a planned series of three, details many of the jet bomber projects drawn up between the late 1940s and the present day and shows just how creative the Design Bureaux could be. A large proportion come from the Design Bureau of Andrei Tupolev, but there are others from the Myasischev, Sukhoi and Yakovlev Bureaux. Access to original archives from the various Bureaux has ensured a level of in-depth coverage and accuracy never previously possible in a book covering unbuilt Soviet bombers. The book also describes the competition between these projects for orders and shows the progress made in aircraft design behind the Iron Curtain. It will give both experts and enthusiasts the chance to compare this work with contemporary Western aircraft programmes. Many of the drawings and illustrations have never previously been published and there are some specially commissioned renditions of 'might-have-been' types.

    Les hélicoptères français (Minidocavia n°9)
    Lariviere | 1998 | ISBN: 2907051172 | French | 52 Pages | PDF | 12,3 MB

Yakovlev's V/STOL Fighters Yak 36, Yak 38, Yak 41 and Yak 141: The Full Story of Russia's Rival to the Harrier
    Aerofax Midland Publishing | 1995 | ISBN: 1857800419 | English | 45 Pages | PDF | 29,5 MB

For a long while, talk of vertical take-off and landing jet fighters meant only the world-beating Harrier. Then the Russian Yakovlev design bureau announced it was bringing its supersonic VTOL fighter, the Yak-141 "Freestyle" to the Farnborough air show in 1992. After all the rumours and scepticism, the world knew that Russian technology was a thing to wonder at. Yakovlev has been in the VTOL business since the early 1960s when they flew the experimental Yak-36 "Freehand" prototype. This was followed by the Yak-38 "Forger" which surprised the world by being deployed on the Soviet carrier "Kiev" from 1975. The story of Russia's programme to achieve a supersonic VTOL jet fighter can now be told, from the earliest experiments through to the astonishing "Freehand" and on to the agreement between Yakovlev and Lockheed Martin to help produce JAST, the United States's next generation tactical fighter. Using material never before seen in the West, this book tells the story of a programme that has to an extent, until recently, been shrouded in secrecy.

Israeli Mirage and Nesher Aces (Osprey Aircraft of the Aces 59)
    Osprey Publishing | 2004 | ISBN: 1841766534 | English | 100 Pages | PDF | 41,1 MB

Israeli delta fighter pilots have been credited with almost 300 kills between 1966 and 1974, and dozens of them became aces. The Israeli aerial kill rate and overall air-to-air performance was phenomenal. Although the Israeli pilots were flying Mach 2 fighters, they lacked any modern radar equipment and their MiG-21 flying opponents should have had a performance edge over them. Engagements were essentially World War 2 style dogfights fought with jet aircraft and because neither side had the combat edge to disengage at will most engagements were a die or survive struggle. In this theatre the introduction of air-to-air missles and the Israeli nesher was to prove decisive. This book contains rare first-hand accounts from a number of the aces, plus material from combat reports which have remained classified since the 1970s.
